“Good Day” PD Kim Tae-ho Faces Criticism Over Flop Shows but Focuses on Self-Praise Instead

MBC’s “Good Day,” which recently faced backlash for airing actor Kim Soo-hyun without edits despite his controversy, has confirmed its cancellation for the March 23 broadcast. While the official reason was “program restructuring,” many speculate it is linked to the Kim Soo-hyun controversy, especially since the production team had already issued an apology for his appearance.

“Good Day,” which marked Kim Tae-ho’s return to MBC and featured G-Dragon, initially attracted attention but failed to maintain viewership. Despite an impressive lineup, its chemistry felt inconsistent, and its focus on casual conversations diluted its core concept. The ratings dropped to 3.0%. The situation worsened when Kim Soo-hyun’a personal controversy surfaced, leading viewers to demand his removal or even the show’s cancellation.

This is not Kim Tae-ho’s only recent setback. His other project, “My Name is Gabriel,” suffered a disastrous 0% range viewership. The show, which had celebrities live as real-life people for 72 hours, was criticized for its confusing premise. Even with big names like Park Bo-gum and Jennie, the ratings plummeted to 0.9%.

However, Kim Tae-ho seems unfazed. At the “World Dice Tour 3” press conference on March 20, he responded to criticism by saying, “I was waiting for that question. Gabriel was designed with a global format in mind, and it has already recouped its production costs through distribution and advertising. We are in talks with multiple platforms for further expansion.”
Regarding Good Day, he acknowledged some issues, stating, “The music production process took longer than expected, so we couldn’t showcase as much variety. However, I’ve heard that the 20-49 demographic ratings are strong, and globally, we’re ranked first in multiple countries. Disney has also reported good domestic performance.”
His vague claims about global success have raised skepticism, with critics questioning the credibility of his data. Instead of addressing the real problems, Kim Tae-ho’s focus on self-praise has left many disappointed.
